Is special training required to operate a MAEDA mini crane?
As with all machinery or plant training is required for both health & safety and for the operator to achieve maximum benefit from the equipment. Many construction sites now require operators of these cranes to hold a CPCS A66 qualification. TCL Lifting can provide the training and arrange the tests for this qualification.
NB: The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 clearly states that employees must receive adequate training for health and safety purposes. To be more specific in the interpretation of this the Provision and Use of Work Equipment regulations (PUWER) 1998 states that 'Every employer shall ensure that all persons who use work equipment have received adequate training for the purposes of health and safety.'
Can MAEDA mini cranes be driven while carrying a load?
It depends on the model, The LC-range of Maeda cranes can be driven with a suspended load. Most of the ‘spider’ cranes need the outriggers deployed before lifting a load and cannot travel with a load. The exception to this is the MC405 which does have limited pick and carries duties in certain configurations.
Are MAEDA mini cranes suitable for working inside, what about ventilation?
All MAEDA mini cranes are available with electric motors, so can be safely operated inside without the problem of exhaust fumes. The cranes are also fitted with powerful efficient diesel engines for external or ventilated internal use. TCL Lifting also offers a range of ‘scrubbers’ which are used to remove some particulates and/or gases from the exhaust.

TCL Lifting can also give advice on loadings for specific loads, working radius etc and spreader pads dimensions required.
Can MAEDA mini cranes be driven through a doorway?
The Maeda MC174 is extremely compact just 590mm wide and easily narrow enough to be driven through a standard single doorway. The 305 and 405 are both less than 1400mm wide and are designed to be narrow enough to fit through a standard double doorway.
How easy / quick are the cranes to set up?
Setting up the outriggers and levelling the machine and being to ready to work will take an experienced operator less than 3-minutes.
